Highway 28 Construction
Project Overview:
The State is redoing Highway 28 between Toronto and Estelline. This lengthy construction project disrupts the current fiber infrastructure. By working alongside the ISP and the main contractor, Hidewood Fiber is able to significantly reduce interruptions in service to homes and businesses along Highway 28 in Deuel and Hamlin Counties in rural, SD.

The Chester to Brookings Fiber Expansion represents a major step forward in strengthening regional connectivity across eastern South Dakota. The expansion involved installing new underground fiber while tying into existing vaults and infrastructure along the route. By leveraging established connection points and adding new vault placements where needed, the project improves redundancy, capacity, and long-term reliability for the surrounding area.
Running through largely rural terrain, this build required detailed planning, coordination, and precision installation to ensure minimal disruption while preparing the corridor for increasing demand.
